Last week’s short stories were extremely interesting. The one that interested me the most was the yellow wallpaper, even though I had read it in high school. It just makes me question the characters and author in so many ways. Also, we are given different messages such as how the husband dominates the wife despite if the wife isn’t in good condition or not, the man always has to make the decision and do what THEY think is best.

The Yellow Wallpaper reminded me of a short story called Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I really enjoyed this short story too because it was about a a salesman, Gregor Samsa, who awakens one morning to realize that he has transformed into a bug and is struggling to adjust to his condition. This reminds me of the narrator in the Yellow Wallpaper because she also couldn’t get used to being stuck in her prison and the only way to escape her dull boring life, she creates imaginary fantasies in her head. However, in Metamorphosis, Gregor is sick and tired of his family depending on him and his income. And by turning into a bug, he was able to be free from his burdens which then forces his family to be independent and not rely on his hard work.
